How to choose personal trainer software: 8 criteria

Good software saves you time and improves your clients' experience. Here are eight criteria to check before you commit.

1. Client management

You should see at a glance who is progressing, who is dropping off and who has not sent a check-in. Also check how you add a client and whether you can import several at once.

2. Workout programming

Look for an exercise library with demos, the ability to add your own, supersets and a PDF export if you need one.

3. Nutrition

A macro calculator, planned meals, a barcode scanner and adjustment by training day simplify tracking.

4. The weekly check-in

The check-in should be short for the client and actionable for you. See whether you can mark a check-in as processed and spot late ones.

5. Communication

Messages, voice notes and set videos inside the tool avoid scattering conversations across several apps.

6. Price

Compare the price for your number of clients, and check for per-client fees or hidden options.

7. Privacy

You handle health data. Check consent for photos, the ability to export and delete data, and the protection of your account.

8. The client experience

If the app is pleasant, your clients use it. Test it as a client: home, workout, nutrition, check-in.
